In this publication, the authors define the methodology - steps and procedures on the basis of which the typology of the building of school and preschool institutions can be determined, based on a detailed analysis of the different principles of classification of public buildings to whom the analyzed buildings belong, as well as the spatial, historical and regulatory framework. Based on the appropriate system of collecting and statistical data processing, the typology of school and preschool institutions has been determined, taking into account spatial and structural predispositions of facilities, as well as relevant systems of installations, primarily thermotechnical and electrical.
The possibilities of energy efficiency improvement of school and preschool buildings were analized through three independent potential levels of improvement of each of the characteristic, and for the building's energy efficiency relevant segments - building insulation, thermotechnical, and electrical installations. The proposed methodological concept provides great flexibility in combining and selecting different levels of improvement for each segment, thus providing greater certainty in the realization of the energy refurbishment in accordance with economic and technical capabilities. At the end, the authors give an overview of the effects of different levels of improvement of school and preschool institutions, confirming significant savings in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions that can be achieved by adequate building refurbishment.
