This monograph represents the result of the research team from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, gathered on a project financed by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Republic of Serbia, within the scientific and research project on technological development, entitled "Energy optimization of buildings in the context of sustainable architecture" (NIP 283) and implemented in the period 2002-2005.

This project represents the first effort to understand, in a comprehensive way, the problem of structuring, analysing and formulating improvement models for refurbishment of building stock of Serbia, in order to improve its energy performance.

The findings of the first project phase are presented in this monograph, along with the results of the analysis of the structure of the Serbian residential building stock.
